Filtering the Gradebook

The Project STEM Gradebook gives you several options to filter out different types of information. These filters are cumulative: for instance, you have the ability to apply a "Sections" filter and a "Modules" filter at the same time! To get started, enter your Gradebook by clicking on "Grades" in the left-hand menu of your course.

Filtering By Section

  1. Click the "Apply Filters" menu at the top left of the Gradebook.

  2. Mouseover the "Filters" submenu, then click "Sections" in the pop-out menu.

  3. A new filter menu will appear. Select the section you wish to view.

  4. Any students in a different subsection will no longer be visible in the Gradebook!

You can remove this filter by following the steps above and clicking on the same section again, or by clicking the x on the filter listed next to the "Apply Filters" button.

Note: Click here to learn how to assign different students to separate sections.

Filtering by Module

  1. Click the "Apply Filters" menu at the top left of the Gradebook.

  2. Mouseover the "Filters" submenu, then click "Modules" in the pop-out menu.

  3. A new dropdown filter menu will appear. Select the module you wish to view.

  4. Any grades from other modules will no longer be visible in the Gradebook!

Filtering by Assignment Group

  1. Click the "Apply Filters" menu at the top left of the Gradebook.

  2. Mouseover the "Filters" submenu, then click "Assignment Groups" in the pop-out menu.

  3. A new dropdown filter menu will appear. Select the assignment group you wish to view.

  4. Any grades from other assignment groups will no longer be visible in the Gradebook! (For more information about assignment groups, see this page on grading weights.)

Creating Grading Periods in the Gradebook

You can create your own grading periods in the gradebook to sort by Unit, Month, Semester - or many other options!

  1. Click the "Apply Filters" menu at the top left of the Gradebook.

  2. Choose "Create and Manage Filter Presets".

  3. A box will appear on the right of your gradebook. Choose "Create Filter Preset" at the top.

  4. Now you can give the filter preset a name, and choose whether you want to filter by Sections, Modules, Assignment Groups, Submissions, or dates. Save the Filter Preset by clicking on the blue button.

  5. Once you've created the Filter Preset, go back and click on "Apply Filters" on the left side, and choose your Filter Preset from the list below.

Note: Filtering by dates (ie. Semester dates) requires setting due dates or availability dates for each course item. Any items without due dates or availability dates will NOT be included in this filter. Click here to learn how to set dates on course items.
