Please review the standard enrollment instructions here before reading this article.

Teachers can divide their course into multiple class periods or sections of students. You may use this option if you are teaching multiple class periods of the same course, or if you want to assign different due dates, exams, etc., to separate groups of students.

Create Subsections on the Update Subsections Page

Navigate to the Update Subsections from the the Manage Enrollment page.

  1. To create a new subsection, type in the name of the subsection in the field below, and click "Add". The subsections you create will appear in a list below the text field.

  2. To move students into a subsection, simply check the box next to their names, select the subsection into which you would like to move them, and click "Move Students".

Students Can Enroll Directly Into a Subsection

If you would rather your students enroll directly into a subsection, follow the steps below.

  1. Come up with a 2-digit code to differentiate, for example, Period 2 from Period 4.

  2. When your students enroll using your unique section token, ask them to add the 2-digit code at end of the section token to create a suffixed section token.

Using the example above, if your section token is 3x2y1z, your students should enter their section tokens when enrolling as follows:

Period 2: 3x2y1z-02

Period 4: 3x2y1z-04

As your students enroll, your Gradebook will automatically show the students in their sections as long as they use the suffixed section tokens upon enrolling.

Please note that this option is only possible for High School students.

Editing and Adjusting Student Course Sections

If you see any corrections or edits that need to be made to your course sections (such as if students have changed class periods, did not use the suffixed section token, or entered the letter โ€œoโ€ instead of a zero), you can adjust these at any time from the Update Subsections page.

Clicking the edit icon next to the subsection will allow you to make any adjustments to the name of the subsection. Be sure to save any changes you make! Updates you make here will show up automatically in your Gradebook.

You can also move students into a subsection from your Manage Enrollment page, by clicking the Edit icon, selecting the desired subsection from the dropdown, and clicking save:

Removing Student Course Sections

If you need to remove a subsection, you can do so by clicking the trash icon next to the subsection you would like to remove. Please note that a course section with students enrolled in it cannot be deleted.

If you have trouble adding, editing, or removing a course section, please send an email to support@projectstem.org so that our team can assist you.
